SUMMARY:Prison Programming Providers Table: Innovative Models of Peer Led Prison Programming
DESCRIPTION:Join us March 3rd from 12:00–1:30 PM (ET) on Zoom for the MI-CEMI Prison Programming Providers Table\, featuring Demetrius Walls of MOTIVE (Michigan) and Alisha Kohn of Prisoner Brain Trust (New York) in a peer-led conversation on how incarcerated leadership and innovative program models are bridging gaps\, restoring hope\, and driving community change. \nEach of these organizations has exciting innovations for prison programming. \n\nPrisoners’ Brain Trust is a currently incarcerated–led nonprofit organization where all leadership and directives are developed and executed by incarcerated individuals\, centering self-determination\, peer leadership\, and transformative solutions from inside the system.\nMOTIVE: Music Opportunities to Incarcerated Voices Everywhere is a trauma-informed mentorship initiative that connects incarcerated individuals with youth in the community through structured phone calls\, focus groups\, and a recording studio platform\, creating space for healing\, accountability\, and intergenerational guidance on both sides of the wall.\n\nCome learn\, be inspired\, and take notes about how you can apply lessons from these innovators in your own programming.

SUMMARY:What Counts as a Sex Offense May Surprise You
DESCRIPTION:The words “pedophile” and “sex offender” are easily thrown around. But what is a pedophile\,\nand who commits a sex offense? Learning the law is important\, not least so that you can avoid\nviolating it\, and prevent others from doing so. Michigan’s sex offense law is more\nencompassing than you think – over 40\,000 people are on its Registry\, and about 1\,000\nmust wear an electronic ankle tether for life. There are numerous online attractions that can\nlure the unwary\, from pornography to sexting to stings. Young people especially\, don’t know\nwhat’s legal or illegal\, and often don’t think about future consequences. Did you know the\nmost common age to commit a sex offense is 14? \nRegister for $20 at https://www.campusce.net/elderwise/category/category.aspx# \nElderwise on-line course taught by Kathie Gourlay and Carolyn Madden in partnership with Michigan Citizens for Justice
