What Counts as a Sex Offense May Surprise You
The words “pedophile” and “sex offender” are easily thrown around. But what is a pedophile,
and who commits a sex offense? Learning the law is important, not least so that you can avoid
violating it, and prevent others from doing so. Michigan’s sex offense law is more
encompassing than you think – over 40,000 people are on its Registry, and about 1,000
must wear an electronic ankle tether for life. There are numerous online attractions that can
lure the unwary, from pornography to sexting to stings. Young people especially, don’t know
what’s legal or illegal, and often don’t think about future consequences. Did you know the
most common age to commit a sex offense is 14?
