We are excited to invite you to a special summer mixer event in Detroit, brought to you by American Friends Service Committee and the Second Look Coalition. This event aims to gather individuals who have served long sentences and are now home, providing an opportunity to come together, connect, and support the Second Look Legislation.
Across Michigan, dedicated individuals are working tirelessly to enhance community safety while addressing the harmful impacts of excessive policing. They organize community violence intervention, advocate for police accountability, and build restorative justice alternatives to traditional prosecution, among other transformative efforts.
As an official endorsement from the Michigan Collaborative to End Mass Incarceration (MI-CEMI), we fully endorse Representative Stephanie Young’s proposed legislation, House Bill 4427, aimed at restoring limited Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) access to incarcerated individuals. We express our gratitude to Rep.Young for her efforts in bringing forth this critical legislation, which we believe will have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of incarcerated individuals.
